The Morning They Fought

Chapter 08 - The Morning They Fought
Daniel remembered the argument.
Amy had been packing a suitcase.
He accused her of leaving him.
She begged him to trust her.
But she refused to explain.
Daniel became angry and walked outside.
When he returned, Amy was gone.
So was the suitcase.
But Emma was still upstairs asleep.
For six years, Daniel believed Amy had chosen to leave alone.
Now Detective Monroe showed him security footage recovered from an archived gas station system.
It showed Amy driving toward Emma’s elementary school.
Then another car appeared behind her.
Richard Miller’s car.
Amy never reached the school.
Hours later, her vehicle appeared near the bridge.
Daniel finally understood.
Amy hadn't abandoned Emma.
She had been intercepted before she could reach her.
But another question remained.
How had she escaped Richard?
And how had Noah become part of the story?
Noah listened quietly.
Then he revealed something he had never told anyone.
“My mom wakes up screaming sometimes.”
“What does she say?” Daniel asked.
Noah looked at him.
“She says, ‘He’ll find the children.’”
