Security footage showed a dark sedan parked near the school several times that week.
Richard Miller had returned.
The folded note had exposed the secret Amy had protected for six years.
Police placed both families under protection.
But Richard did not want money.
He wanted revenge.
Amy possessed documents proving he had stolen millions.
Evidence powerful enough to send him to prison for decades.
She had kept the files hidden as insurance.
Now Richard wanted them destroyed.
Daniel wanted Amy to hand everything to police immediately.
She refused.
“Not until the children are safe.”
Daniel exploded.
“This is exactly what you did six years ago. You keep making decisions alone.”
Amy stared at him.
He was right.
Fear had controlled every choice she made.
Finally, she handed Detective Monroe a small storage key.
The evidence was inside a safe-deposit box.
But when police reached the bank, the box was empty.
Someone had arrived first.
And the security image showed a face Daniel recognized.
