Richard Miller
Chapter 07 - Richard Miller
Richard Miller had disappeared seven years earlier.
According to police records, he had been investigated for financial fraud involving millions of dollars stolen from elderly investors.
The case collapsed when the key witness disappeared.
That witness was Amy Carter.
Daniel finally understood part of the truth.
Amy had known Richard before she married Daniel.
But Detective Monroe had worse news.
“We believe Amy agreed to testify against him.”
Daniel frowned.
“Then why run?”
“Because someone leaked her identity.”
Richard discovered she was cooperating with investigators.
Amy believed Emma and Daniel were in danger.
So she staged her death.
Daniel stood abruptly.
“She abandoned her daughter to protect her?”
“No,” Monroe said quietly.
“We believe she intended to take Emma.”
Daniel froze.
The detective placed another document on the table.
It was an old train reservation.
Two tickets.
One for Amy.
One for Emma.
Neither had ever been used.

Something had happened on the morning Amy disappeared.
Something Daniel still did not know.
