THE BOY'S NOTE SAID HIS MOTHER WAS DEAD—BUT HIS TEACHER KNEW SHE WAS HIS MISSING WIFE

Chapter 01 - THE BOY'S NOTE SAID HIS MOTHER WAS DEAD—BUT HIS TEACHER KNEW SHE WAS HIS MISSING WIFE
## chapter 01 - The Folded Note
The classroom was almost empty when twelve-year-old Noah Miller crossed the narrow aisle between the desks.
His hands were shaking.
Across from him stood Emma Carter, a quiet blonde girl who had barely spoken to him for three weeks. Her eyes stayed fixed on the floor as Noah placed a small, badly folded piece of notebook paper on her desk.
Neither child noticed Mr. Daniel Carter walking toward them.
Daniel was Emma’s father—and, for the past two months, the temporary substitute teacher for their class.
“What’s that?” he asked.
Emma quickly reached for the note, but Daniel picked it up first.
Noah’s face went pale.
“Sir, please. That’s private.”
Daniel unfolded it.
Only a few words were written inside.
“Amy told me about you. Start over?”
Daniel stopped breathing.
Emma looked confused.
Noah looked terrified.
But Daniel recognized the name immediately.
Amy.
His wife.
Emma’s mother.
The woman who had supposedly died six years earlier.
Daniel slowly looked at Noah.
“Who is Amy?”
The boy swallowed hard.

Then he whispered the sentence that would change all three of their lives.
“She’s my mother.”
