The Choice Caleb Made

Chapter 19 - The Choice Caleb Made

Six months later, Grant Hale was sentenced for his role in the bribery scheme, kidnapping conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

Captain Sloan accepted a plea agreement and testified against several others.

Millions in illegal funds were recovered.

Mason Ridge Airport changed leadership.

Daniel Reyes was promoted.

Elena was offered a senior operations position.

But the biggest changes happened quietly.

Sarah started working again.

Owen found a job with a logistics company willing to judge him by his cleared record rather than old headlines.

He and Sarah didn't pretend six lost years could be repaired overnight.

They attended counseling.

They argued.

They apologized.

They learned each other again.

Some days were difficult.

But Owen always came back the next day.

One Sunday, Caleb had a baseball game.

Owen arrived early.

Sarah brought sandwiches.

Elena brought enough snacks for the entire team because she misunderstood what "bring something small" meant.

Daniel showed up during the fourth inning.

Caleb looked toward the bleachers.

Every seat that mattered to him was filled.

His team lost.

He didn't care.

Afterward, his teacher asked students to write about the bravest person they knew.

Everyone expected Caleb to write about his father.

He didn't.

He wrote about Sarah.

He described the mother who discovered dangerous truth and still found a way to protect her son.

When Sarah read it, she cried.

At the bottom, Caleb had written one final sentence.

My dad came back, but my mom never left me.

Owen read it too.

He wasn't hurt.

He kissed Sarah's forehead.

"He's right."

That evening, Caleb made another decision.

He asked his father if he wanted to come on their summer trip.

Owen smiled.

"Where are we going?"

May you like

Caleb grinned.

"The airport."
