The Hangar Door

Chapter 12 - The Hangar Door

The federal team divided quietly.

One group prepared for Hangar 12.

Daniel accompanied a second team toward Hangar 37.

Elena stayed with Caleb at a secure location.

For twenty agonizing minutes, nothing happened.

Then Daniel called.

Hangar 12 was empty.

A trap.

But Hangar 37 had signs of recent use.

Inside, investigators found Sarah's coat.

Her phone.

And a chair.

But Sarah was gone.

Caleb stared at the coat when Daniel showed him a photograph.

"That's hers."

Elena wrapped an arm around him.

The search expanded.

A security camera captured a black SUV leaving the airport service road thirty minutes earlier.

Its registration led nowhere.

But another discovery changed everything.

Someone had scratched a message onto the inside of Hangar 37's metal door.

Three letters.

OWC.

Owen William Carter.

Caleb's father.

Daniel examined the marks.

They were fresh.

Owen had been there.

Possibly the same night as Sarah.

The story everyone believed suddenly became even stranger.

Was Owen hiding?

Was he working with Hale?

Or had he been trying to save Sarah?

Before anyone could answer, an alert came from the airport perimeter.

A man had been found walking near an abandoned access road.

He carried no identification.

He was exhausted.

His clothes were dirty.

But when Daniel saw his face, he recognized him instantly.

Six years had added gray to his hair.

A scar crossed one eyebrow.

But there was no mistake.

Owen Carter was alive.

Daniel brought him into a secure interview room.

Caleb stood behind the glass.

For years, he had imagined this moment.

He thought he would run toward his father.

Instead, he remained completely still.

Owen looked through the glass.

He saw his son.

And began to cry.

May you like

Caleb whispered only one sentence.

"You took too long."
