The Trap at Gate Seven

Chapter 16 - The Trap at Gate Seven
Grant Hale believed his money would save him.
It always had.
His attorneys denied everything.
They claimed Victor Shaw had created the ledger.
They suggested Sarah stole the cash.
They described Owen as a fugitive trying to rewrite history.
For several days, it appeared the case could become a legal war lasting years.
Then Daniel remembered something.
The original security footage.
Owen had supposedly been recorded entering the cargo vault alone.
Investigators recovered archived copies.
Digital experts discovered the timestamp had been altered.
But the original recording still existed on an old backup server.
The footage showed Owen entering the area.
Then it showed something investigators had never been allowed to see.
Captain Sloan entered behind him.
Grant Hale followed.
Owen wasn't stealing money.
He was confronting them.
The remaining footage showed Sloan taking Owen's employee access card.
The frame that destroyed Owen Carter's life had been manufactured minutes later.
Grant's defense collapsed.
Sloan agreed to cooperate.
He confirmed the bribery network.
Victor Shaw was eventually located living under an assumed name in another state.
He agreed to testify.
The final arrests happened quietly near Gate Seven at Mason Ridge Airport.
Three officials who believed they were meeting Grant's representative arrived to collect their payment.
Federal agents were waiting.
Elena watched from behind the same counter where Caleb had placed the duffel.
It struck her how quickly ordinary places could become part of someone's life forever.
Caleb stood beside her.
"No more bad guys?"
Elena smiled.
"Probably always a few somewhere."
Caleb frowned.
"That's not comforting."
She laughed.
"No. I suppose it isn't."
Then she looked across the terminal.
Owen was standing there.
He held something in his hands.
The old photograph of himself holding Caleb as a baby.

And beside him stood Sarah.
For the first time, they were walking toward Caleb together.
