Adrian sat on Nora’s porch and read the letters until sunset.
Emily wrote about doctor appointments, the baby’s first movements, and choosing the name Lucas because Adrian once said he wanted a son with a strong but ordinary name.
One letter had been written the night Lucas was born.
He has your eyes.
Nora told Adrian that Emily defended him even after years of silence. She believed the man she loved would never knowingly abandon his own child.
Then Nora revealed that Emily had died of cancer.
During her illness, she tried one last time to reach Adrian.
But Richard Vale—Adrian’s father—visited her first.
Nora handed Adrian a final sealed letter Emily had left behind.
“She told me to give you this only if you found Lucas yourself.”
Adrian opened it.
