Adrian confronted Richard.
Richard admitted that when Emily first came to him, he actually liked her.
She made him laugh.
Then fear took over.
He feared losing control over Adrian’s future and the family empire.
“I told myself I was protecting you,” Richard said.
“The truth is, I was protecting my control.”
For once, there was no excuse.
Richard asked permission to apologize to Lucas.
Adrian refused to decide for the boy.
“That’s his choice.”
Weeks later, Lucas agreed to meet Richard at the soccer field.
Richard apologized.
Lucas asked, “Do I have to forgive you?”
Richard lowered his eyes.
“No.”
“Good.”
Lucas picked up his ball.
Then he pointed toward the bleachers.
“You can watch practice.”
Richard sat down.
Not forgiven.
