A Poor Boy’s Soccer Ball Hit a Millionaire’s SUV—Then He Saw the Signature and Turned Pale

Chapter 01 - A Poor Boy’s Soccer Ball Hit a Millionaire’s SUV—Then He Saw the Signature and Turned Pale

## chapter 01 - The Ball That Rolled Into the Road

Ten-year-old Lucas Reed practiced soccer alone beside a public field, wearing scuffed cleats and kicking a battered black-and-white ball his late mother had kept for years.

One hard kick sent the ball rolling into the road, where it struck the tire of a black luxury SUV. A tall man in a dark suit stepped out. His name was Adrian Vale, a former soccer star turned millionaire businessman.

Adrian picked up the ball—and froze. Across one faded white panel was his own signature, marked with a tiny heart he had drawn on only one ball in his entire career.

He had given that ball eleven years earlier to Emily Reed, the woman he once planned to marry.

When Lucas nervously asked for it back, Adrian stared at the boy’s hazel eyes and asked where he got it.

“It belonged to my mom,” Lucas said.

“What was her name?”

“Emily.”

Adrian forgot how to breathe.

Then Lucas whispered the sentence that changed both their lives.

“Before my mom died, she said the man who signed that ball was my father.”
