Chapter 10 - Emily’s Last Recording
Emily appeared on the screen wearing a blue sweater.
She looked tired but peaceful.
“Hi, Adrian.”
Adrian broke down before she finished the first minute.
Emily explained the truth in her own words. Richard had intercepted her, frightened her, and convinced her that Adrian had chosen his future over her pregnancy.
Then she said something Adrian would never forget.
“Please don’t try to make up eleven years in eleven days.”
She told him Lucas did not need a hero.
“He needs someone who shows up.”
She warned Adrian not to turn Lucas into a Vale before learning who Lucas already was.
At the end, Adrian discovered four more minutes addressed only to Lucas.
He stopped the recording.
“That part isn’t mine.”
Lucas watched it alone.
When he came out, his eyes were red.
He carried the old ball.
