The Blue Motorcycle

Chapter 18 - The Blue Motorcycle

On Lily's twenty-fifth birthday, Ethan took her to his workshop.

A motorcycle stood beneath a canvas.

He pulled the cover away.

Lily recognized it immediately.

The old blue motorcycle from the photograph.

"You kept it?"

"Not exactly."

Ethan had sold it after Sarah disappeared.

For years, he regretted it.

After meeting Lily, he tracked it through four owners and bought it back.

Then he restored it.

Every scratch.

Every piece of chrome.

Every memory.

Lily touched the handlebars.

"Mom told me about this bike."

"She did?"

"She said you promised to take her all the way up the Pacific Coast."

Ethan smiled sadly.

"We never made it."

Lily picked up a helmet.

"Then maybe we finish the trip."

They rode north that summer.

Not to replace the years they lost.

Nothing could do that.

They rode because they finally had years ahead of them.

At a roadside diner in Oregon, Lily placed the old photograph on the table.

Then she took a new picture.

Same man.

Same daughter with Sarah's eyes.

A different beginning.

When they returned home, one final letter was waiting.

It was from Dominic.
