The True Value of Power

Chapter 09 - The True Value of Power

By 8:00 PM, the evening shadows had settled quietly over the estate. The gala guests had been politely but firmly escorted off the villa grounds by security, and the terrace was once again silent. The surface of the sapphire pool lay dark, still, and peaceful under the warm, glowing terrace lights.

Inside the master suite of the villa, Sarah was resting comfortably on the plush king-sized bed, sipping warm chamomile tea while Lily slept peacefully beside her, exhausted from the afternoon's trauma.

David sat on the edge of the mattress, having showered and changed into a comfortable linen shirt and trousers, holding Sarah’s hand tightly in his own.

"I'm sorry I kept my family's wealth and position so hidden from our daily life," David murmured softly, looking down at their joined hands. "I only wanted us to live a quiet, normal life, far away from the corporate sharks and ruthless battles."

Sarah smiled warmly, reaching up with her free hand to smooth back his hair. "I never cared about the Vance empire, David. I fell in love with you long before I knew what your last name was. You didn't save me today because you control a multi-billion-dollar company... you saved me because you are a devoted husband and a protective father."

David squeezed her hand tightly, a genuine, warm smile finally breaking through his tired face. "The company is just a tool, Sarah. My real empire is sitting right here on this bed."
