Chapter 08 - The Clean Slate

As Evelyn was marched down the grand stone steps toward the waiting police cruiser, screaming hysterically into the empty air, Sterling stepped up beside David with a pen and a leather-bound legal folder.

"Sir, our digital forensics team has also uncovered that Ms. Reed attempted to manipulate the guest security list prior to today's event, specifically trying to clear out your personal bodyguards from the pool area," Sterling reported quietly. "We are adding federal charges of premeditated conspiracy and corporate espionage."

"Ensure there is no possibility of bail," David said flatly, drying his arms with a fresh towel.

"The duty judge has already reviewed the 4K footage and signed a remanded detention order," Sterling assured him confidently. "She will remain in a high-security holding cell until the trial commences."

David turned away from his legal staff and walked over to the medical gurney where Sarah was sitting comfortably, wrapped in a plush wool blanket while holding little Lily close in her lap.

"How are you feeling, my love?" David asked softly, kneeling down on one knee beside the stretcher and placing his warm palm gently against Sarah’s cheek.

Sarah let out a long, quiet sigh of exhaustion, resting her forehead gently against his. "I was terrified... but the moment I went under, I knew you'd jump in. You always do."

"I will always come for you," David promised, kissing her forehead gently. "All three of you."
