A Father’s Vow

Chapter 09 - A Father’s Vow
“You are not just a nanny anymore, Lily,” Victor said, his tone firm, leaving no room for argument. “Six months ago, I hired you because you had a clean background. But over these past months, I watched my son look at you like you were his entire world. And today, you took a bullet for him.”
Victor reached out, his large, warm hand gently covering her small, cold fingers.
“Serena is gone. Her family is ruined,” Victor continued, his dark eyes locking onto hers. “My life is dangerous, Lily. I am a man surrounded by enemies and blood. I thought bringing a noble family like the Montigues into my home would buy protection for my son, but I was a fool.”
Lily looked into his eyes, seeing the profound vulnerability hidden beneath his terrifying exterior.
“You don't have to give me money or apartments, Mr. Blackwood,” Lily said softly, leaning into his touch slightly. “I don't care about those things. I just want Ethan to be safe. I want to be here for him.”
Victor smiled—a rare, breathtaking smile that transformed his harsh features into something remarkably handsome.
“Then stay,” Victor whispered, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand. “Not as a servant who receives a monthly paycheck. Stay as the mistress of this house. Stay as Ethan’s mother... and as my wife.”
Lily’s breath caught in her throat. Her heart hammered against her ribs, not out of terror, but out of a sudden, overwhelming wave of emotion.

“Victor...” she breathed.
“I won't rush you,” Victor promised, kissing the knuckles of her bruised hand gently. “But from this day on, anyone who dares to touch a single hair on your head or Ethan’s will answer to the full might of the Blackwood empire.”
