The Ice-Cold Verdict

Chapter 03 - The Ice-Cold Verdict

Victor didn't say a single word. He walked into the foyer, his heavy leather boots making slow, rhythmic, terrifying thuds against the marble floor.

Serena rushed toward him, extending her trembling hands, her eyes wide with fake panic. “Victor, look at what she did to your son! I had to defend myself!”

Victor didn't even look at her. As she reached out to touch his arm, his hand shot out like a steel trap, catching her by the throat. He didn't choke her, but his grip was so absolute that Serena’s breath hit a wall. He shoved her backward with effortless force, sending her crashing onto her knees beside the marble pillar.

“Don't touch me,” Victor said, his voice a low, vibrating growl that shook the glass chandeliers above.

He dropped to one knee beside Lily.

Lily was trembling so violently her teeth chattered, but she refused to let go of Ethan. She looked up through her swollen eyes at the man who commanded the city’s underworld.

“Mr. Blackwood...” Lily sobbed, her voice breaking into ragged pieces. “His arm... his arm is broken. Please, get a doctor... don't worry about me, just save Ethan!”

Victor looked down at his son. The sight of Ethan’s unnatural arm and pale face caused a muscle in Victor’s jaw to twitch violently. He carefully reached out his large, calloused hands, gently scooping both the baby and Lily’s trembling fingers into his arms.

“Marco,” Victor barked without turning around.

His top lieutenant stepped forward instantly. “Boss?”

“Get Dr. Vane here in three minutes,” Victor ordered, his voice terrifyingly calm. “If he takes four minutes, shoot him.”

“Yes, boss.” Marco pulled out his satellite phone and sprinted out the front doors.
