The Nanny’s Testimony

Chapter 04 - The Nanny’s Testimony
Victor lifted Ethan gently, holding the infant against his broad chest while keeping one arm extended to help Lily stand up. Lily leaned against his shoulder, barely able to support her own weight due to the severe internal bruising from Serena’s heels.
Serena scrambled backward on the floor, her expensive silk dress ruined, her manicured nails digging into the rug. “Victor! You’re listening to a servant! Look at her! She’s lying to cover her own negligence! I came in and saw her throwing Ethan—”
“Shut your mouth,” Victor snapped, not even turning his head.
He set Ethan down on the plush velvet sofa, wrapping him in his own heavy wool coat to keep the boy warm. He then turned his cold, dark gaze onto Lily.
“Speak, Lily,” Victor commanded softly, his tone entirely different when addressing the nanny. “Tell me everything that happened before I walked through those doors.”
Lily wiped the blood from her lip with her sleeve. She took a deep, agonizing breath, her hands shaking as she pointed at Serena.
“She came into the nursery an hour ago,” Lily whispered, her voice ringing clearly in the quiet room. “She took Ethan’s mother’s locket from the dresser. When I asked her to leave it, she threw Ethan into his crib. Then... then ten minutes ago, she took him down here. She said... she said Ethan was a reminder of your dead wife, and that she would never let a bastard stand in the way of her inheriting the Blackwood empire.”

Serena screamed, “She’s making it up! Where is the proof? You have no proof!”
“The proof is on her phone!” Lily yelled back, facing the terrifying woman without fear for the first time. “She recorded a video on her phone to send to her father, showing how she was going to 'discipline' Ethan so he would be terrified of her!”
