The Falling Empire

Chapter 06 - The Falling Empire
“Victor... please! It was a joke! My father forced me to say those things!” Serena wept hysterically, thrashing against the guards’ iron grips. “We’re getting married in two weeks! The Montigue family controls thirty percent of your shipping routes! If you hurt me, my father will ruin your cartel!”
Victor let out a single, dark laugh that chilled everyone to the bone.
He pulled out his own gold-plated satellite phone and pressed a speed-dial button. He put it on speakerphone.
After two rings, a frantic, elderly voice answered. “Victor? Victor, my daughter is at your mansion! Please, my men just told me our warehouses in Boston and Miami are being raided by federal agents! Our bank accounts are frozen! What is happening?!”
It was Arthur Montigue—Serena’s billionaire father.
“Arthur,” Victor said calmly, staring straight into Serena’s wide, terrified eyes. “Your daughter tried to murder my heir ten minutes ago.”
Silence hung over the line for three agonizing seconds. Then, Arthur Montigue’s voice cracked with pure terror. “Victor... no... please, she’s young, she didn't mean—”
“Your family is finished,” Victor cut him off without emotion. “By midnight, every asset the Montigue name owns will belong to the Blackwood syndicate. And your daughter will never see the light of day again.”
Victor ended the call and tossed the phone onto the sofa.
Serena collapsed onto the floor, her knees giving out completely as she realized her entire world, her status, her wealth, and her life had been obliterated in less than sixty seconds.

“Take her to the basement facility,” Victor ordered his men coldly. “Wait until Dr. Vane finishes treating my son. Then give her the exact same injuries she inflicted on Ethan.”
“No! Victor! Please! Mercy!” Serena shrieked as the guards dragged her kicking and screaming down the dark corridor toward the underground holding cells.
