The Doctor’s Diagnosis

Chapter 07 - The Doctor’s Diagnosis
The front doors slammed open as Dr. Vane—a world-renowned pediatric surgeon who served as the Blackwood family’s private physician—sprinted into the foyer carrying two heavy medical kits, out of breath and pale.
“Where is the boy?!” Dr. Vane gasped.
“On the sofa,” Victor said, stepping aside.
Dr. Vane immediately knelt beside Ethan, his experienced hands moving with incredible speed and gentleness. He examined the infant’s swollen left arm, checked his pupil responses, and listened to his faint breathing.
Lily knelt right beside the doctor, tears streaming down her face as she held Ethan’s uninjured tiny right hand, whispering gentle words of comfort to keep the baby calm.
“Shh, sweetie... Lily is here. You’re safe now, baby Ethan... you’re safe.”
Dr. Vane pulled out a small syringe, administering a mild, infant-safe painkiller before carefully applying a temporary splint to stabilize the fracture.
“It’s a clean greenstick fracture of the radius,” Dr. Vane announced, wiping sweat from his forehead. “He’s in severe pain, but because his bones are young, it will heal completely with a cast and proper care. He’s going to be okay, Victor.”
Victor released a heavy breath he seemed to have been holding for hours. His broad shoulders relaxed slightly.
“And the nanny?” Dr. Vane asked, turning his eyes toward Lily, noting the dark purple bruises blooming across her cheek and abdomen.
“Check her too,” Victor commanded, sitting down on the edge of the sofa beside Lily.
“No, I’m fine...” Lily protested weakly, trying to stand up, but a sharp wave of pain made her collapse back onto the cushions.

Victor reached out, catching her by the waist before she hit the floor. His large, warm hand held her securely, his dark eyes fixed on her pale face with an intensity she had never seen before.
“You protected my son with your life,” Victor whispered, his voice deep and sincere. “You are not fine. You are staying right here.”
