Emma's Final Warning

Chapter 08 - Emma's Final Warning
The missing page arrived by encrypted email.
Richard, Ethan and the attorney read it together.
Emma had discovered that Charles was not simply stealing from the company.
He had created shell corporations and redirected millions from employee retirement accounts.
Emma had planned to tell Richard.
But Charles threatened Ethan.
At the time, Ethan was twenty-six and working construction jobs across three states.
Charles told Emma that if she spoke, Ethan would be framed for theft and fraud.
So Emma made a choice.
She walked away.
Not because she feared poverty.
Because she feared losing the man she loved to a prison sentence for crimes he never committed.
Ethan stared at the letter.
"She carried this alone."
Richard lowered his head.
"I should have known my daughter."
Ethan's anger softened for the first time.
Not disappeared.
But softened.
Because grief had made enemies of two men who had both loved Emma differently.
Now they finally shared the same enemy.
Charles.
Richard's attorney advised them not to confront him.
They needed evidence.
But Charles had already realized the truth was closing in.
The next morning, Hale & Whitmore's board received an emergency notice.
Charles had called a meeting.
His proposal was simple.
Remove Richard as CEO on grounds of declining mental fitness.
And appoint Charles as chairman.
If the vote passed, Charles would control the company before Richard could expose him.
Richard read the notice twice.
Then he looked at Ethan.
"For twenty-three years, my brother thought I was too proud to admit I was wrong."
Ethan crossed his arms.
"Were you?"
Richard looked toward Lily, who was drawing at the kitchen table.
"Not anymore."

And for the first time in decades, Richard Hale prepared to fight for his daughter.
Even though she was no longer alive to see it.
