The Evidence No One Expected

Chapter 10 - The Evidence No One Expected
Emma had saved copies.
Bank transfers.
Letters.
Recorded conversations.
Names of shell companies.
Dates.
Account numbers.
Not enough to prove every crime immediately.
But enough to trigger a federal investigation.
Charles tried to leave.
Richard blocked the door.
"Sit down."
Charles looked at his brother.
"You have no idea what you're doing."
"For once, I do."
"You'll destroy the company."
Richard's voice remained calm.
"No."
"You did that."
The board voted.
Not on Richard.
On Charles.
Eleven votes.
Zero in favor of keeping him.
Charles Whitmore was removed from every executive position.
But as security escorted him toward the elevator, he stopped beside Ethan.
"You think this gives you a family?"
Ethan stared at him.
"I already had one."
He put his hand on Lily's shoulder.
Charles smiled bitterly.
"And Richard?"
Ethan looked toward the older man standing alone at the end of the hall.
"That's up to him."
Because exposing Charles could not repair twenty-three years.
It could not bring Emma home.
It could not make Richard a grandfather simply because blood said he was one.
Richard understood that.
That evening, he handed Ethan the key to the private jewelry collection.
"The Eleanor belongs to Lily."
Ethan shook his head.
"No."
Richard looked surprised.
"Emma was my daughter."
"And Lily isn't a replacement for her."
Richard said nothing.
Ethan continued.
"You want a relationship with my daughter? Earn it."
Richard slowly closed his hand around the key.
For the first time in his life, Richard Hale heard something money could not solve.
May you like
No.
And strangely, it was exactly what he needed.
