SHE OPENED THE SPA DOOR AND FOUND HER FIANCÉ WITH HER BEST FRIEND

Chapter 01 - SHE OPENED THE SPA DOOR AND FOUND HER FIANCÉ WITH HER BEST FRIEND
## chapter 01 - The Door She Wasn't Supposed to Open
Laura Bennett had spent forty-six years learning not to make scenes.
She had survived a divorce, raised a daughter mostly on her own, buried her mother, and built Bennett Coastal Interiors from a spare bedroom into a company with thirty-eight employees. She knew how to smile through bad meetings and swallow anger until she was alone.
But nothing in her life had prepared her for the door at the Seabriar Resort spa.
She had come to surprise her fiancé, Evan Mercer, with the final seating chart for their wedding. The ceremony was three days away. He had texted that he was "taking an hour to decompress" before dinner with the investors.
Laura almost laughed when the spa attendant pointed her toward the private treatment suite.
"He'll love the surprise," the young woman said.
Laura pushed open the half-latched door.
Evan sat on the edge of a massage table with only a white towel around his waist. Beside him, wrapped in another towel, was Marisol Vega—Laura's best friend of eleven years and the woman who had stood beside her when her first marriage ended.
For one second, nobody moved.
The late-afternoon sun burned through the open shutters. Palm trees swayed beyond the balcony. Two glasses of water stood on a tray beside rolled towels and a cream spa card.
Then Evan stood too quickly.
"Laura—"
Marisol pulled the towel tighter around herself.
Laura's fingers went numb. The diamond on her left hand caught the sunlight, flashing almost cruelly between them.
"Don't," Laura said.
Evan took one step forward. "It isn't what you think."
Laura looked at the two towels. The closed suite. Marisol's bare shoulders. Evan's face, pale with panic.
Then she looked down at the ring he had placed on her finger nine months earlier.
"That's interesting," she said quietly. "Because I haven't even told you what I think."
Marisol whispered, "Laura, please let me explain."
Laura took off the ring.
She did not throw it. She did not scream. She placed it carefully beside the two water glasses.
"You both have exactly thirty seconds," she said. "And whatever comes out of your mouths next will decide whether I walk out of this room heartbroken... or whether I walk out ready to destroy every lie you've built around me."

Evan and Marisol exchanged one terrified glance.
That glance told Laura more than either of them did.
