Justice in the Dark

Chapter 09 - Justice in the Dark
"Enough talking! Find the kids!" Victoria shrieked, pointing wildly toward the basement hallway.
Before Julian’s men could advance, brilliant blinding floodlights exploded outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The wail of police sirens ripped through the night air as heavy tactical vehicles crashed through the estate's iron gates.
Mark and his private security team breached the side entrances, surrounding the foyer within seconds.
"Police! Drop your weapons! Hands on your heads!" heavy voices bellowed as SWAT officers poured through the broken conservatory doors.
Julian realized instantly that the trap had failed. He turned his gun toward Victoria in sheer panic, but a tactical sniper round from outside shattered the weapon in his hand, knocking him to the floor in agony.
Victoria let out an ear-piercing scream as two officers tackled her to the marble floor, pinning her arms behind her back and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists.
"Adrian! Please! I was forced into this! Julian threatened me!" Victoria sobbed hysterically, her face pressed against the cold floor.
Adrian walked down the grand staircase slowly, completely ignoring her pathetic pleas. He stepped past the arrested intruders, standing over Julian, who was groaning in blood on the rug.

"It’s over, Julian," Adrian said coldly. "Every offshore account, every bribe, every crime—it's all documented."
The officers dragged Julian and Victoria out into the pouring rain, their frantic screams fading into the wail of the police sirens as they were shoved into tactical vans.
