Chapter 01 - The Family Crest Necklace

Chapter 01 - The Broken Picture-Perfect Moment

The grand ballroom of the five-star hotel glittered under the expensive crystal chandeliers. The sweet scent of lily of the valley filled the aisle leading to the altar, where Adrian—the sole heir to a powerful family empire—stood impeccably dressed in a tailored tuxedo. Beside him was Victoria, looking like a queen in a custom-made Paris wedding gown.

Everything seemed picture-perfect until the heavy oak doors at the back of the hall burst open.

A heart-wrenching sob shattered the silence.

Standing in the main doorway was an eight-year-old girl. She was barefoot, covered in dust, with matted hair and eyes red from sheer exhaustion. Cradled tightly in her small arms was a baby girl under two years old, burying her tiny head into her sister's neck, sobbing uncontrollably.

The entire room froze. The applause, the clinking of champagne flutes, and the polite murmurs instantly ceased. The guests stared at the two children in shock, as if they were filthy intruders ruining a high-society event.

Victoria’s brow furrowed, a flash of pure panic darting across her eyes before she quickly masked it with disgust. She glared toward the security guards at the door, but before anyone could react, the young girl took her first trembling steps down the aisle.
