The Woman Behind the Curtain

Chapter 15 - The Woman Behind the Curtain

Sarah did not run.

She invited Adrian into her office.

"I wondered how long it would take."

Adrian stared at her.

"You leaked Noah's identity."

"Yes."

"You forged the DNA report."

"I arranged it."

"Why?"

Sarah closed her laptop.

"Because Victor promised me this company."

Adrian almost laughed.

"He promised everyone something."

"He promised me control."

"And you believed him?"

Sarah looked toward the skyline.

"My father worked for yours."

Adrian frowned.

Sarah continued.

"When your father died, mine was blamed for financial irregularities Victor created."

Her father lost everything.

His career.

His home.

Eventually, his life.

Sarah grew up believing the Cole family had destroyed hers.

Victor found her years later.

He paid for law school.

Helped place her inside Adrian's company.

Then waited.

"You spent twelve years planning revenge against the wrong man," Adrian said.

Sarah's eyes filled.

"Apparently."

"Then help me finish this."

She looked at him.

"Why would you trust me?"

"I don't."

Adrian stood.

"But I think you're finally starting to hate Victor more than you hate me."

Sarah gave federal investigators everything.

Hidden accounts.

Encrypted emails.

Names.

The final piece was a recorded conversation proving Victor had ordered the payment to the plane mechanic.

But the recording was incomplete.

It suggested corruption.

Not murder.

Victor could still avoid the most serious charge.

Then Ethan remembered something.

The dog tags.

The two matching skull necklaces that had started everything.

One tag had belonged to Ethan.

The other to Adrian.

But there had once been a third item.

A small metal case Victor gave Ethan after the crash.

Ethan suddenly looked at Adrian.

"I think I know where the original recording is."

"Where?"

May you like

Ethan touched the skull engraved on his dog tag.

"Inside the thing we've been carrying all these years."
