The Question of Blood

Chapter 14 - The Question of Blood
Rachel refused the test at first.
"This is another humiliation."
Ethan agreed.
"He is my son."
Adrian believed him.
But Victor's lawyers had created enough public doubt that the media wouldn't stop.
Noah heard everything.
One evening, he walked into the kitchen where the adults were arguing.
"I'll do it."
Rachel turned.
"Noah—"
"I don't care what it says."
His voice trembled.
"But maybe everyone else will stop talking about me."
The room fell silent.
The DNA test was conducted privately.
Three days later, the results arrived.
Ethan opened them.
Then sat down.
Rachel became pale.
"What?"
Ethan handed her the paper.
Probability of paternity:
0%.
Nobody spoke.
Noah stared at his father.
"Does that mean you're not my dad?"
Rachel looked horrified.
"I don't understand."
Ethan slowly turned toward her.
"Rachel?"
"I swear to you."
She began crying.
"I never—"
Then Adrian noticed something.
The laboratory listed on the report.
He recognized the name.
It was owned by a medical investment group.
A company once controlled by Victor Hale.
"This test is fake."
Adrian immediately ordered a second test through an independent hospital.
The true results arrived twenty-four hours later.
99.99%.
Ethan was Noah's father.
But the fake result revealed something more important.
Victor's network was still operating.
Even with Victor in custody, someone was continuing his work.
Someone inside Cole Capital.
Someone very close to Adrian.
Then Marcus called.
"We found the leak."
Adrian asked, "Who?"
Marcus answered with a name Adrian never expected.
His own chief legal officer.
May you like
Sarah Whitmore.
The woman Adrian had trusted with every confidential document for twelve years.
