The Missing Page

Chapter 09 - The Missing Page

The workshop had been searched while they were at the board meeting.

Nothing valuable was taken. The old computers remained. So did Thomas’s watches, drafting tools, and a tin box containing cash.

Only one ledger page was gone.

Grace blamed Camille.

“She knew where we were going,” Grace said. “She knew the page could destroy Julian.”

Camille had stopped answering calls.

Lily found her hotel room empty and paid through the end of the week. A half-packed suitcase remained on the bed, but her passport was gone.

Julian’s public-relations team moved quickly. Commentators called Nora a privileged heiress pretending to be a victim because her family’s fraud had been exposed. Old photographs of her at galas appeared beside the penthouse video.

The bruises were described as “unverified.”

At Mrs. Alvarez’s apartment, Nora watched strangers debate whether she had injured herself.

“Turn it off,” Grace said.

“I need to know what they believe.”

“You need to decide what you believe.”

Nora looked at her sister.

Grace sat on the edge of the sofa, still angry, still wounded, but present.

“I believe Dad did something wrong,” Nora said. “I believe Julian used it to control us. And I believe I helped Julian build a company that rewarded silence.”

“Then say that.”

“My lawyers will tell me not to.”

“I didn’t ask what your lawyers would say.”

Nora drafted a statement admitting the 2009 fraud, promising cooperation, and refusing to excuse her father because he had later repaired the buildings.

Before she posted it, Lily stopped her.

“There’s something else.”

She opened her trust account on a laptop.

For four years, Julian had used Lily’s shares to guarantee development loans. Her electronic consent appeared on every document, though she had never seen them.

“He told me the trust was locked until I turned twenty-five,” Lily said.

Nora saw the last loan date.

It was the day after Lily had accused Nora of stealing from her.

Julian had created the fight to isolate both women before moving the money.

Lily’s phone rang.

Her father’s name appeared on the screen.

She answered.

“Come home,” Julian said. “Nora is going to prison, and she will take you with her.”
