The Medical Conspiracy

Chapter 05 - The Medical Conspiracy
The air inside Room 402 turned dead quiet.
Dr. Harrison stood frozen near the examination table, his gloved hands lingering over Khloe’s chart. The color drained from his face so fast he looked like a ghost under the fluorescent hospital lights.
Marcus turned around slowly, his eyes locking onto the doctor like a predator locking onto its prey.
“Doctor Harrison...” Marcus said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, deadly whisper. “Why were you photographing my wife’s private genetic records at three o'clock in the morning?”
Dr. Harrison swallowed hard, his throat dry as leather. He took a subtle step back toward the secondary exit door leading to the physician’s lounge.
“Mr. Vance... please, let me explain,” Dr. Harrison stammered, his voice quivering. “It’s not what it looks like! I was reviewing her quarterly high-risk blood work—”
“At 3:00 AM in the dark? Wearing a mask?” Captain Miller countered, stepping between Harrison and the door. “And why did those photographed files get transmitted directly to an encrypted server registered to a private lab in Switzerland ten minutes later?”
Khloe clutched her stomach, looking at the doctor who had handled her pregnancy for seven months. “Dr. Harrison... what did you do to my blood tests?”
Marcus didn't ask another question. He lunged across the room, grabbing Dr. Harrison by his white lab coat collar and slamming him hard against the wall!
“TALK!” Marcus roared, his voice shaking the glass windows of the room. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY WIFE AND MY BABY?!”
“Marcus! Stop! You’ll kill him!” Khloe called out from the bed.
Carlo Rossi stepped forward, gently putting a hand on Marcus’s shoulder. “Boss, let him speak. We need the truth.”
Marcus released his grip, shoving Harrison into the armchair near the desk. Harrison slumped into the chair, clutching his chest, coughing frantically.
“I had no choice!” Harrison wept out, covering his face with his hands. “They were going to revoke my medical license! They paid off my gambling debts in Macao!”
“Who paid off your debts?!” Marcus demanded.
“Isabella and her mother, Eleanor!” Harrison confessed, his voice breaking into frantic sobs. “They hired me seven months ago before Khloe even got pregnant! They paid me two million dollars to ensure that if Khloe ever conceived an heir, I would alter her genetic prenatal reports!”
Marcus felt the room spin around him. “Alter her reports? Why?!”
“Because your father’s will has a strict bloodline clause!” Harrison revealed, spilling every secret to save himself from a life sentence. “If Khloe delivers a healthy biological child, eighty percent of the Vance International conglomerate shares automatically lock into a permanent trust for the baby, stripping Eleanor and Isabella of all executive voting power!”
Harrison looked up at Khloe with tear-filled, remorseful eyes.
“They didn't just want to stop the baby, Mr. Vance,” Harrison whispered. “Three nights ago, I photographed her blood results because Isabella wanted to confirm if the fetal DNA matched yours. When the Swiss lab confirmed a one-hundred percent biological match to you... Isabella knew her time was up. That’s why she came in here with that chemical syringe today!”
Khloe covered her mouth, letting out a sharp, heartbroken sob. The woman she had considered family, the stepmother and stepsister who had smiled at her across holiday dinner tables, had spent seven months plotting to murder her unborn child for corporate greed.
Marcus stood in the center of the room, his fists clenched so tightly his fingernails drew small specks of blood from his palms.
He pulled out his smartphone and dialed a three-digit speed-dial number.
“Carlo,” Marcus said without looking at his bodyguard. “Tell my legal team to freeze every asset, every account, and every property registered to Eleanor Vance immediately.”

Marcus put the phone to his ear as the call connected.
“Mother?” Marcus spoke into the receiver, his voice colder than ice. “I know what you and Isabella did. Police are on their way to the manor right now.”
