The Battle for the Estate

Chapter 07 - The Battle for the Estate
Elena didn't waste a second crying or panicking. She scrambled across the hardwood floor, keeping low beneath the gunfire, and sprinted out of the study toward the boys’ bedroom.
Dante stepped out into the red-lit hallway, raising his assault rifle to his shoulder.
Down the grand staircase, ten heavy mercenaries in tactical black gear were forcing their way through the shattered front doors, firing wildly at Moretti guards who were returning fire from behind marble pillars.
Dante pulled the trigger.
BANG-BANG-BANG!
Three mercenaries fell instantly at the base of the stairs, shot dead before they could even locate the shooter. Dante moved down the corridor like a phantom of death—flawless, lethal, and merciless—firing with devastating precision, clearing the upper balcony in seconds.
Upstairs, Elena burst into the twins’ room.
Leo and Matteo were sitting up in their beds, crying hysterically as the terrifying sounds of gunfire and shouting echoed through their home.
“Miss Elena!” Leo shrieked, tears streaming down his small face.
“I’m here, sweeties! I’m right here!” Elena called out, rushing to the beds, gathering both boys into her arms. “We’re playing a game, okay? Remember the special cave I told you about? We’re going to run to the cave right now!”
She scooped Matteo into her left arm, grabbed Leo’s hand with her right, and sprinted out into the back servant hallway that led down toward the kitchen and wine cellar.
As they reached the top of the servant stairs, a broad-shouldered mercenary with a scarred face stepped out from the shadows, pointing an automatic shotgun directly at Elena and the children!
“Found the little rats!” the mercenary sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.
Before he could fire, Elena’s training and survival instincts kicked in. She pulled a heavy bronze candlestick from a wall alcove and swung it with all her strength, smashing it directly into the mercenary’s throat!
The man gasped, choking, dropping his shotgun. Elena didn't hesitate—she kicked him squarely in the chest, sending him tumbling headfirst down the steep flight of servant stairs!
“Run, Leo! Keep moving!” Elena yelled, taking the steps two at a time, protecting the boys with her body.
Down in the main foyer, the battle was reaching a terrifying climax. Dante and Carlo were pinned behind the grand marble fireplace, trading heavy gunfire with Dominic Falcone’s remaining elite hit squad.
Dominic Falcone stood near the shattered front entrance, wearing a expensive leather coat, holding an assault rifle, a sick, victorious grin on his face.
“Give it up, Dante!” Dominic shouted over the roar of gunfire. “Your house is surrounded! My men are clearing the upper floors right now! Your precious little twins are already dead!”

Hearing those words, something inside Dante Moretti completely snapped.
The dark, primordial fury of the Black Wolf erupted in his veins. He didn't stay behind the marble pillar. He stepped out directly into the open hallway, completely ignoring the bullets ricocheting off the walls around him, and advanced down the grand staircase like an unstoppable force of nature.
