A New Light

Chapter 10 - A New Light
Three months later.
The morning sun broke warm and bright over the rolling green lawns of the estate. The bullet holes had been repaired, the broken glass replaced with crystal windows, and the dark, suffocating shadow that had hung over the mansion for two years had completely vanished.
Children’s laughter rang out across the manicured gardens.
Leo and Matteo were running across the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Dante had bought them for their seventh birthday. Matteo was laughing out loud—a bright, clear, musical sound that echoed across the estate—his hand no longer holding the old wooden horse, which now rested peacefully on a shelf in their bedroom.
On the grand stone porch, Dante stood holding two white porcelain cups of hot coffee. He wore a simple navy sweater and dark trousers, looking relaxed, peaceful, and entirely rejuvenated.
Elena stepped out onto the porch, wearing a beautiful yellow summer dress that caught the morning breeze. She no longer wore a green housekeeping apron. She was no longer a servant in this house.
Dante handed her a cup of coffee, his fingers brushing against hers, a warm smile spreading across his face.
“The boys are asking if we can go to the beach house in the Hamptons this weekend,” Elena said softly, taking a sip of coffee.
“Whatever they want,” Dante smiled, looking down at her. “Whatever you want.”
Dante reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box. He set his coffee cup down on the stone railing and turned to face Elena fully.
Elena’s breath hitched in her throat as she saw the box.
Dante opened it, revealing a stunning, custom-designed ring featuring a brilliant solitaire diamond set above a band engraved with tiny olive branches—a symbol of peace and new beginnings.
“Dante…” Elena whispered, her eyes brimming with happy tears.
“Three months ago, a brave woman walked into my broken home,” Dante said, his voice filled with deep, sincere emotion. “She brought my children back to life. She healed a house that was drowning in dark grief. And she showed the Black Wolf that his heart wasn't dead after all.”
Dante took her hand, looking directly into her eyes with absolute devotion.
“I don't want you to just be their protector, Elena,” Dante declared softly. “I want you to be my wife. I want you to share my life, my name, and my future. Will you marry me?”
Elena looked down at the ring, then up into the warm, loving eyes of the man who had fought through hell to protect the people he loved.
“Yes, Dante,” Elena wept tears of pure joy, stepping into his arms. “Yes! A thousand times yes!”
Dante pulled her close, kissing her deeply under the bright, golden morning sun.

Down on the lawn, Leo and Matteo stopped playing with the puppy, looking up at the porch. They clapped their small hands together, cheering happily as they watched their father and Elena embrace.
The dark winter was finally over. The ghosts of the past were laid to rest. And in their place, a new family stood strong, united, and bathed in the warm light of a bright, beautiful future.
