The Fall of Victor Hale

Chapter 12 - The Fall of Victor Hale
Victor discovered the truth too late.
His phone began ringing.
Once.
Twice.
Then continuously.
He looked at the screen.
News alerts were already spreading.
COLE INDUSTRIES PENSION SCANDAL EXPOSED.
BOARD MEMBER VICTOR HALE NAMED IN FEDERAL INVESTIGATION.
Victor stared at Adrian.
"What did you do?"
"I stopped being afraid of you."
Victor moved toward Eli.
Adrian stepped between them.
"Don't."
Victor froze.
Outside, sirens approached.
He looked toward the warehouse doors.
"You brought police."
"No."
Adrian's voice was steady.
"I brought consequences."
Federal agents entered seconds later.
Victor attempted to run.
He didn't get far.
Eli was released.
The moment the ropes were removed, he ran toward Adrian.
Adrian caught him.
For a few seconds, neither moved.
"Dad."
Adrian closed his eyes.
"I'm here."
Eli clung tighter.
"You came."
"I'll always come."
Across the warehouse, Victor Hale was placed in handcuffs.
For thirty years, he had controlled people through fear.
Now he looked surprisingly small.
But the victory did not feel complete.
Because Charles Cole was arrested the following morning.
He turned himself in voluntarily.
Adrian watched from the courthouse steps as his father entered with attorneys.
Charles stopped.
"Take care of the boy."
"I will."
"And Rachel?"
Adrian looked toward her.
She stood beside Eli.
"I'll try."
Charles nodded.
"That's more than I deserve."
Adrian almost agreed.
But anger had exhausted him.
"I don't know what you deserve."
Charles looked at his son.
"Neither do I."
Then he walked inside.
The investigation that followed shook Cole Industries.
Stocks collapsed.
Board members resigned.
Reporters camped outside Adrian's home.
For the first time in his life, Adrian could not solve a problem with money.
He had to decide whether to save the company—
May you like
or destroy the empire his father had built.
And thousands of innocent employees were waiting for his answer.
