The Grandfather’s Ledger

Chapter 04 - The Grandfather’s Ledger

My jaw dropped in complete, paralyzed disbelief. “Forty million dollars...? Sixty percent of the medical corporation?”

“Your grandfather knew what kind of people your parents and brother were,” Vance explained, pulling out a thick leather binder. “He knew Richard and Eleanor were grooming Preston to take over the family legacy while treating you like a second-class servant. So, he bypassed your parents entirely in his secret codicil.”

Vance turned the binder toward me, showing me signed legal deeds, offshore account keys, and a handwritten letter bearing my grandfather’s distinct signature.

“Your parents have been running the medical corporation for the last five years under a temporary proxy agreement,” Vance continued, his eyes sharp. “An agreement that officially expires next Friday. Up until tonight, your parents were planning to force you to sign a legal waiver transferring your shares to Preston on his wedding day.”

The horrifying puzzle pieces clicked together with sickening precision.

Preston hadn't just planted that phone tonight because he was an arrogant bully. He and my parents had orchestrated the entire scene to publicly humiliate me, frame me as an unfit, thieving mother, and use the threat of a legal trial or child protective services to force me into signing away my forty-million-dollar inheritance before next Friday!

“They framed my daughter... to steal my inheritance,” I whispered, the realization burning through my soul like pure acid.

“Precisely,” Vance nodded. “Victoria’s father, the real estate developer, was in on it too. They needed your shares to finalize a multi-million-dollar merger with a Swiss healthcare firm.”

I looked back at Sophie, sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed, her small head wrapped in bandages.

My brother had struck my eight-year-old child with a heavy oak board over money. My parents had stood by and called my bleeding daughter a thief over corporate shares.

The last remaining thread of mercy or familial love inside my heart vanished completely, replaced by a cold, unstoppable fire of vengeance.

“Mr. Vance,” I said, turning back to face the attorney, my voice dropping to a dangerous, lethal register. “Can my parents revoke that proxy before Friday?”

May you like

“Not without your signature,” Vance smiled—a sharp, predatory smile. “And as of tonight, I am your exclusive legal representative. You control the company, Evelyn. You control the board. And you hold the power to destroy every single one of them.”

“Then let’s destroy them,” I replied.
