A New Dawn

Chapter 10 - A New Dawn
Six months later.
The morning sun broke warm and golden over the skyline of Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant light across the high-rise executive offices of Sterling Medical Corporation.
The company had been completely transformed. Under my leadership as Chief Executive Officer, the firm had cut all ties with corrupt offshore networks, redirected millions into pediatric medical research, and launched a nationwide foundation dedicated to providing free medical care and legal protection for abused children.
I stood behind the floor-to-ceiling windows of my corner office, holding a warm cup of coffee, looking out over the blue waters of the lake.
A gentle knock sounded at the door.
Sophie walked into the office, wearing a pretty yellow summer dress, carrying a colorful drawing she had made in her art class that morning. Walking right behind her was Marcus Vance, holding a leather briefcase and two pastries.
“Look, Mommy!” Sophie cheered, running up to my desk, holding up the drawing.
It was a picture of our new house, surrounded by green trees, a golden dog, and two figures holding hands under a bright yellow sun labeled: MOMMY & ME.
I smiled, picking Sophie up into my arms, kissing her cheek as she giggled softly.
“It’s beautiful, baby,” I smiled, setting the drawing on my desk right beside a framed photograph of our new family.
Marcus Vance walked over, setting the pastries on the table, offering a warm, genuine smile. “The board meeting just concluded, Evelyn. The pediatric research grant was approved unanimously.”
“Thank you, Marcus,” I smiled, holding his hand gently. “For everything.”
I looked out the window at the bright sky above the city.

The wolves who had tried to break my spirit were gone—locked away in dark prison cells, destroyed by their own greed and cruel lies.
I had survived the ambush. I had protected my daughter. And as I held my sweet girl tightly in my arms, I knew that no one would ever hurt us, manipulate us, or break our family ever again.
