The Healing

Chapter 08 - The Healing

Inside the safe room, the bright warm lights revealed Lily sitting on the soft sofa, holding little Ethan close to her chest.

When the door opened and she saw Victor standing in the entryway unharmed, a massive wave of relief washed over her face.

“Mr. Blackwood!” Lily gasped, tears of joy filling her eyes.

Victor walked into the vault, dropping to his knees in front of her. He reached out, gently taking his sleeping son into his arms, holding the boy tight against his heart, letting out a long, shuddering breath he felt like he’d been holding for months.

“It’s over, Lily,” Victor whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “They’re all gone. Ethan is safe.”

Lily wiped a tear from her cheek, offering a soft, beautiful smile. “Thank God...”

Victor looked at her—her clothes dirty, her hair disheveled, her shoulder still wrapped in bandages from Serena’s attack—yet her eyes shone with an unshakeable, gentle warmth that filled the cold steel room with peace.

“You stayed with him through a gunfight,” Victor said, his dark eyes glistening with profound gratitude. “You protected my son twice when nobody else was there to help him.”

“He’s an innocent baby, Victor,” Lily said softly. “I would have done anything to keep him safe.”

Victor took her soft, trembling hand into his large palm, squeezing it gently.

“You’re never going back to working as a cheap nanny, Lily,” Victor declared firmly, looking straight into her eyes. “From this second on, you and your family are under my personal protection forever.”
