A Promise of Forever

Chapter 10 - A Promise of Forever
That evening, as the sun began to set over the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant hues of orange, pink, and purple, Victor and Lily walked together along the quiet stone path near the lake.
Ethan was fast asleep inside the house under the watchful care of Clara, who had been promoted to head estate manager.
The cool evening breeze ruffled Lily’s dark hair as she looked out over the calm, shimmering water.
“It’s so peaceful here now,” Lily whispered softly, holding Victor’s arm. “Sometimes I still feel like I’m going to wake up and be back in that kitchen facing Serena.”
Victor stopped walking, turning to face her completely under the soft golden light of the setting sun. He took both of her hands into his, looking deep into her brown eyes.
“You don't ever have to fear the past again, Lily,” Victor said, his voice deep, sincere, and trembling with emotion. “Six months ago, I thought my life was meant to be lived in cold, solitary darkness. I thought my heart died when Clara passed away.”
He reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small velvet box.
Lily’s breath hitched in her throat, her hands trembling slightly as Victor dropped to one knee on the lush green grass.
Victor opened the velvet box, revealing a breathtaking, brilliant solitaire diamond ring that sparkled under the twilight sky.
“You walked into this house as a humble nanny,” Victor declared softly, looking up into her tear-filled eyes. “You protected my son with your life. You healed a broken family. And you brought light, love, and hope back into my world.”
Victor held her trembling hand, his eyes burning with absolute devotion.
“I don't want you to just stay in this house, Lily,” Victor asked gently. “I want you to be my wife. I want you to be Ethan’s mother. Will you marry me?”
Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness overflowed from Lily’s eyes. She let out a joyful laugh, stepping forward, kneeling right beside him on the grass, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.
“Yes, Victor!” Lily wept happy tears, kissing him deeply under the twilight sky. “Yes! A thousand times yes!”

Victor pulled her close into his arms, holding her tight against his heart as the stars began to twinkle brightly above Blackwood Manor.
The dark shadows were gone forever. The truth had prevailed, love had conquered, and in the warmth of a new beginning, a family stood united, safe, and bound together for a lifetime of unconditional love.
