Title: The Shadows of Blackwood Manor

Chapter 01 - Title: The Shadows of Blackwood Manor
Chapter 01 - The Housemaid’s Secret
The mansion fell into a deathly silence as the recording on the tiny black device ended. Serena stood frozen, her eyes wide with terror, her manicured fingers trembling as she stared at the glowing red light on the digital voice recorder.
At the top of the grand marble staircase, the young housemaid, Clara, stood weeping quietly, holding her apron with both hands.
Victor turned slowly away from Serena, his face a mask of stone. He walked past the overturned chairs, dropped to one knee, and carefully picked up 14-month-old Ethan into his arms. The little boy nestled his face against his father’s chest, letting out tiny, trembling whimpers as Victor gently stabilized the baby’s swollen left wrist.
“Clara,” Victor’s deep, cold voice echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer. “Come down here.”
Clara descended the stairs with shaking steps, keeping her head lowered, avoiding Serena’s lethal glare.
“What did you mean when you said this wasn't the first time?” Victor asked, keeping his eyes fixed on the housemaid.
“Victor, darling, she’s lying!” Serena interjected frantically, taking a step toward him, forcing tears into her eyes. “She’s in on this with the nanny! They’re trying to extort money from you before our wedding! You know how much I love Ethan!”
“SILENCE!” Victor roared, his voice so loud and commanding that the crystal chandelier above them vibrated.
Serena flinched, stepping back in absolute shock. In the two years they had been dating, Victor had always been soft-spoken, charming, and gentle with her. She had completely forgotten that Victor Blackwood was the ruthless founder of a global security empire—a man who destroyed enemies in boardroom wars without blinking.
Victor looked at Clara. “Speak.”
“Three weeks ago, sir,” Clara sobbed out, her voice cracking. “When you were on your business trip to London, Miss Serena brought two men into the estate late at night. They went into your private study upstairs.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed into slivers of dark ice. “My study?”
“She... she gave them access to your safe,” Clara continued, trembling. “And every afternoon while you were at work, she would lock little Ethan in the dark storage room in the basement so his crying wouldn't disturb her phone calls.”
Lily raised her bruised face from the floor, her voice steady despite her pain. “I found Ethan locked in that basement room today, Mr. Blackwood. That’s why I brought him up. When I confronted Miss Serena, she tried to force me to leave the estate, and when I refused, she grabbed Ethan’s arm.”
Victor’s chest heaved with heavy, dangerous breaths. He looked at Serena, seeing the monster behind the designer clothes and expensive perfume for the very first time.
“Carlo!” Victor called out toward the foyer entrance.
The heavy oak front doors swung open. Carlo Rossi—Victor’s head of personal security and a former tactical officer—stepped into the foyer, flanked by two armed security guards.
“Sir?” Carlo bowed respectfully.
“Lock down the estate,” Victor ordered, his voice cold enough to freeze hell itself. “Nobody leaves this property. Call my personal physician to check Ethan’s arm, and call the police.”
Serena’s face turned from pale to translucent. “Victor, no! Please! We’re getting married in six weeks! You can’t do this to me! My father’s firm controls thirty percent of your supply lines!”

Victor looked down at his crying son, then back up at Serena with absolute, unadulterated disgust.
“Your father’s firm won't even exist by tomorrow morning, Serena,” Victor said softly.
