THE BLUE KEYCARD ON THE MARBLE FLOOR

Chapter 01 - THE BLUE KEYCARD ON THE MARBLE FLOOR
## chapter 01 - The Accusation in the Hallway
The hallway outside the Bellmont Hotel’s grand ballroom smelled of lilies, furniture polish, and money. Elena Cruz had spent twelve years learning how to disappear inside places like this. At fifty-two, she knew which guests wanted conversation, which wanted silence, and which looked through a housekeeper as if she were part of the wallpaper.
Charlotte Wynn did not look through her.
She came straight at Elena in a champagne-colored dress, diamonds at her ears, fury in her face. Guests slowed behind her. A bellman stopped near the elevator. Elena still had one hand on her cleaning cart when Charlotte leaned close enough for everyone to hear.
“My mother’s bracelet is gone,” Charlotte said. “And you were the last person inside my suite.”
Elena’s stomach dropped. “Mrs. Wynn, I changed the linens and replaced the towels. I never touched your jewelry.”
Charlotte’s voice grew sharper. “Do not lie to me.”
The words cut deeper than they should have, because Elena knew that face. Fifteen years earlier, she had seen the same blue eyes beside another woman’s hospital bed.
Before Elena could say the name she had buried for years, something slipped from Charlotte’s small silver clutch.
A blue keycard struck the marble floor.
Noah Bennett, the assistant hotel manager, hurried toward them. He crouched, picked up the card, and froze for half a second.
It was not a guest-room key.
It was a Legacy Access card—one of only five in the entire hotel.

And as Charlotte demanded that security search Elena’s locker, Noah quietly closed his fingers around the card.
Because he knew exactly which doors it could open.
