Chapter 11 - THE BLUE STITCHES

Three months later.
The sun shone brightly over the manicured lawns of the Moretti estate. The white folding chairs were filled with guests, but this time, there were no mafia capos or rival bosses. There were friends, loyal staff, and a few neighbors.
The string quartet began to play.
I stood in the foyer, looking at myself in the antique mirror.
I was wearing a wedding dress. But I hadn't bought it from a designer. I had made it myself, from scratch, pouring every ounce of love and skill my mother had taught me into the silk and lace.
The door opened, and Leo walked in. He was wearing a tiny black tuxedo, carrying a velvet pillow with two simple gold bands.
"You look like a princess, Sophie," Leo smiled, his bright eyes shining. He was happy. The terror of his past was fading, replaced by the safety of his new home.
"Thank you, handsome," I smiled, adjusting his bowtie.
"Are you ready?" a voice asked.
I turned. Vanessa stood in the doorway.
She looked different. Her blonde hair was dyed a soft brunette, and she wore a simple, elegant blue dress. The witness protection program had given her a new name and a new life, but Luca had pulled strings to allow her to attend the wedding safely.
Answer One: Vanessa and Luca found peace, bound by their mutual love for Leo.
"I am," I said softly.
Vanessa walked over to me. She didn't have the arrogance or the cruelty from before. She just looked grateful.
"I never thanked you," Vanessa said, her voice wavering. "For saving my son. For giving him a family when I couldn't."
"You took a bullet for him, Vanessa," I said gently. "You're a good mother."
She smiled through her tears and hugged me carefully.
The music swelled outside. It was time.
I took a deep breath and walked out the grand front doors, stepping into the sunlight.
At the end of the aisle stood Luca.
He took my breath away. He was smiling, a genuine, radiant smile that erased the years of darkness from his face.
As I walked toward him, I felt a slight tug on my left sleeve.
I glanced down.
Hidden discreetly beneath the lace of my own gown, completely invisible to anyone else, were two tiny blue stitches.
My something blue.
I reached the end of the aisle and took Luca's hands. They were strong, warm, and safe.
"You look beautiful," he whispered.
"So do you," I smiled back.
The priest began the ceremony, but I barely heard the words. I was looking into the eyes of the man I loved, surrounded by a family we had fought for, bled for, and finally saved.
We had taken a broken world, and together, we had fixed it.

And this time, the seams would hold forever.
THE END.
