Chapter 8

Fifteen years after the breakfast, Matteo was twenty-eight and getting married to Julia. Luca became unbearable. Claire threatened to book a separate hotel. Matteo said now Luca understood what wedding planning felt like from the child's side.

Matteo and Julia negotiated their own prenup with separate lawyers. Luca offered one opinion. Matteo said no. Luca said right. Growth can sound very small.

Matteo asked Claire privately if she would share a parent dance. Claire cried and asked if he was sure. He reminded her that he had already asked. No title required.

Wedding morning still began with pancakes. Motorcycle again. Luca, Claire, and Matteo each made one. Julia judged Claire the winner. Luca accused corruption.

Vanessa sent congratulations. Matteo read the card and did not reply. That was enough.

At the reception someone asked Claire if she was Matteo's mother. Matteo answered, “She helped raise me.” No correction followed.

Matteo had full trust control by then and still chose no Moretti board role. He invested independently. Claire accepted a regional hotel position that required travel. Luca started to object, caught himself, and instead said he would miss her.

A minor surgery later put Luca in hospital. The medical proxy order was clear. Matteo and Claire both understood their roles. No emergency authority confusion. Luca joked that at least Vanessa could not decide anything from France. Matteo told him to stop.

One night Matteo asked Claire whether Vanessa had loved him. Claire said yes. He asked why she still hurt him. Claire answered that love does not automatically make someone safe. Matteo said he thought he forgave Vanessa some. Claire told him he did not need to announce a percentage.

At the wedding there was no family-positioning session. No authority transition. Just music, food, and a father watching his adult son dance.

Matteo and Julia's prenup was entirely their own process.

Claire's parent dance happened only because Matteo invited her.

The earlier complaint against Claire remained in training materials.

Vanessa's congratulations required no response.

Matteo's full trust control arrived through age and preexisting terms.

Later review note 1 from this stage recorded a safeguard born from the birthday case: no behavioral note, guardianship proposal, staff complaint, or family-transition plan could be treated as valid unless the affected person knew it existed, the source was identified, and an independent reviewer could challenge the record. The rule mattered because chapter 8 had shown how easily ordinary love, grief, and resistance could be renamed as pathology when only one adult controlled the file.
