The Senator’s Ultimatums

Chapter 05 - The Senator’s Ultimatums

Nathan stopped dead in his tracks, shielding Grace and Lily behind his back as he turned slowly toward the trees.

Stepping out from the shadows was Senator Richard Vance—Victoria’s father—wearing a long black trench coat, holding a heavy silver revolver pointed straight at Nathan’s chest. Standing behind him were four broad-shouldered private security guards armed with assault rifles.

Victoria stood beside her father, her arms crossed, a cold, victorious smile on her lips.

“Did you really think you could outrun me in my own state, Nathan?” Senator Vance scoffed, his voice dripping with condescension. “I’ve spent thirty years building this city. I own the judges, I own the police chief, and I own the media.”

“Put the gun down, Richard,” Nathan said, his voice terrifyingly calm, his body positioned firmly between the barrels and his family. “You’re pointing a weapon at the sole heir to the Cole estate.”

“There is no heir!” Senator Vance spat, his eyes flashing with manic greed. “That little girl is an illegitimate bastard born to a penniless maid! My daughter is going to marry you, we are going to merge our corporations tomorrow morning, and that child is going to disappear into an overseas adoption facility where she belongs!”

“She’s my daughter!” Grace yelled, stepping out from behind Nathan, her eyes blazing with fierce, maternal rage. “You threatened my mother, you forced me into hiding, and you tried to murder us today! You’re a monster!”

Senator Vance sneered at her. “I offered you two hundred thousand dollars five years ago to get an abortion, Grace. You should have taken the money.”

Nathan’s vision turned red with absolute, blinding fury. He took a slow, menacing step toward the Senator, completely ignoring the rifles pointed at his chest.

“You touched my family,” Nathan whispered, his voice dropping to a dangerous, lethal register. “You threatened my daughter. You have no idea what I’m about to do to you, Richard.”

“What are you going to do, Nathan?” Senator Vance mocked, raising his revolver. “Shoot me? You don't even have a gun. Hand the child over to Victoria right now, or I swear to God I will put a bullet through this maid’s head and claim it was self-defense!”

Victoria stepped forward, holding out her arms with a cruel smile. “Give me the brat, Nathan. Right now.”

Lily buried her face deeper into Nathan’s neck, shivering violently. “Daddy... I’m scared...”

Nathan squeezed his daughter gently. He looked at Senator Vance, then at Victoria, and let out a low, cold laugh—a laugh so terrifyingly devoid of fear that even Senator Vance hesitated for a microsecond.

“You forgot one thing, Richard,” Nathan said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small black remote control with a glowing red LED light.

Senator Vance frowned. “What is that?”

“My father didn't just leave me a codicil in his will,” Nathan revealed coolly. “He knew you were a greedy, corrupt psychopath. So three years ago, he installed an automated, satellite-linked cloud transmitter directly inside the main server vault of Cole International.”

Senator Vance’s face froze.

“The moment I press this button,” Nathan declared, holding his thumb over the red switch, “every recorded phone call, every offshore bank transfer, and every wiretap detailing your thirty years of bribery, political hits, and blackmail will be broadcast live to the FBI, the Department of Justice, and every major news network in North America.”
